# EV charger installation

Share the vehicle or charger model, expected parking position and desired charging arrangement. An assessment should consider the home’s other loads and the available electrical service. A nearby receptacle or spare breaker space does not by itself establish a suitable charging installation.

## During the assessment

Ask the electrician to assess capacity, equipment compatibility, circuit route and installation conditions. In shared parking, confirm owner permissions and metering before design begins. Discuss load management where appropriate and request the provider’s explanation of the selected approach.

## Compare the complete scope

Compare charger supply, circuit installation, routing, permits, inspections and any service changes. Ask who configures the equipment and checks the completed installation. Separate utility work, wall repairs or trenching if they are excluded from the quote.

## Have these details ready

- Vehicle and charger specifications
- Parking position and cable reach needs
- Existing service information
- Owner or association permission for shared spaces

## Does an EV charger always require a service upgrade?

The answer depends on the existing service, other loads and proposed charging equipment. Ask for an assessment before assuming an upgrade is necessary or unnecessary. The electrician should explain capacity, any load-management approach and required approvals.
